From Hiatus to Hysteria: Hunter x Hunter’s Explosive Comeback in Weekly Shonen Jump, The beloved manga series Hunter x Hunter is set to make its return in the 45th issue of this year’s Weekly Shonen Jump on October 7. The announcement came from Shueisha during their “Jump Press” livestream on Monday. Fans have been eagerly awaiting this news ever since the series went on hiatus in January 2023 due to health issues faced by the author, Yoshihiro Togashi.
Health and Serialization Format
At the time of the hiatus, Shueisha consulted with Togashi and decided to forego a weekly serialized format in the future, prioritizing the author’s health. This thoughtful decision has now led to the highly-anticipated return of the manga.
Upcoming Volumes and Updates
Alongside the return announcement, Shueisha will publish the 38th compiled book volume of the manga on September 4. This follows the release of the 37th volume in November 2022, which was the first volume after a four-year gap. Copies of the 37th volume were shipped in English by Viz Media last October. Togashi has been quite active on X/Twitter, teasing updates for upcoming chapters, including the completion of Chapter 401 in March 2023 and progress on Chapter 405 in May.
Legacy and Future Projects
Originally launched in 1998, Hunter x Hunter has an extensive legacy, inspiring two television anime series, two anime films, several original video anime titles, and stage plays. Excitingly, a new 2D 3v3 fighting game titled Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact is expected to be released by Bushiroad Games and Eighting on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam later this year. Fans can look forward to much more from this iconic series both in manga and other media formats.
